When the D'Tigress step onto a court, they are carrying far more than a jersey with a flag stitched on it. They carry a country. Every rebound, every timeout huddle, every point on the board holds the hopes of millions of Nigerians who watch from living rooms in Lagos, from offices in Abuja, from kitchens and barbershops and diaspora homes scattered across the world. For a lot of young girls back home, these women are the first proof that the dream is not too big.
That is the spirit that brought Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, President of the DAM Foundation, to Berlin.

He came to stand with the team. Not from a distance, not with a statement issued from an office, but in person, in the room, close enough for the players to see that somebody made the trip for them. There is a difference between being supported and feeling supported, and it usually comes down to who shows up.
The gathering brought together some of the most important voices in the game. Ugo Udezue, a Board Member of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), was present. So was Anibal Aurelio Manave, President of FIBA Africa, and Andreas Zagklis, Secretary General of FIBA. Having African basketball leadership and global basketball leadership in the same room, talking about Nigerian women's basketball, says something about how far this team has pushed the conversation.
Also in attendance was Mr. Emmanuel Iza, CEO of XEJet, one of the major sponsors backing the D'Tigress on their journey. Sponsorship of this kind rarely gets the applause it deserves. Flights have to be booked, camps have to be funded, logistics have to be sorted long before anyone gets to celebrate a result. Partners who commit early, and stay committed, are part of the reason the team can compete at this level at all.
For Dr. Abdullahi, the trip to Berlin fits into something larger than one fixture or one tournament. The DAM Foundation's work has always been built around people: supporting athletes, opening doors for young Nigerians, and investing in the systems that let talent grow instead of going to waste. Sport is one of the clearest ways to do that. A funded athlete inspires a classroom. A visible team creates a hundred quiet ambitions in girls who had never seen a path before.
Nigeria has never had a shortage of talent. What it has needed, again and again, is structure, backing, and belief that arrives before the trophy rather than after it. Standing with the D'Tigress in Berlin is one small part of building that habit.
When Nigerians step onto the global stage, they deserve to know that an entire country is behind them. Not only when the scoreline is going well, and not only in the highlight reels afterwards, but through the long, unglamorous work that makes the moment possible.
