While some people were asleep on Saturday, the biggest NBA trade in recent history took place. Five-time All-Star Luka Doncic has been traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster three-team deal involving the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz.
Doncic, a 25-year-old superstar, leaves Dallas for LA, where he is expected to be the long-term successor to LeBron James. In return, the Mavericks made a huge move by acquiring Anthony Davis, along with guard Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick. Meanwhile, the Jazz receive Lakers guard Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.
The trade sent shockwaves through the league, with many calling it one of the biggest NBA trades in years. Adding Davis, a proven champion and elite defender, gives Dallas a major boost as they aim to compete for a title.
Lakers GM Rob Pelinka praised Doncic as a "one-of-a-kind, young global superstar" who will define the franchise’s future. Meanwhile, Mavericks GM Nico Harrison believes Davis’ defensive presence makes Dallas a stronger contender.
As the dust settles, one thing is clear: the NBA landscape has changed in a major way.
